Arbor Day
On November 21st, we celebrate “Arbor Day 2023”.
This date was established in Italy by the Ministry of Environment and Land and Sea Protection in 2013.
How was it instituted?
On this day we focus our attention on the reduction of pollution, the preservation of the environment, and, of course, the protection of forests and their importance to our ecosystem.
Did you know that the first “Arbor Day” was celebrated on April 10th, 1872?
On this date, about 1 million trees were planted in Nebraska and since then the United States has celebrated “Arbor Day” every year on the last Friday of April.
During the occasion of celebrating Arbor Day, we would like to introduce to you an important certification called FSC, a symbol that you often find on advertisements printed on certified paper such as our publicity material.
What does FSC mean?
FSC, short for Forest Stewardship Council, is an independent, nongovernmental, nonprofit international organization that was established in 1993.
Their aim is to promote responsible forest management with the long term goal of having a positive impact on the environment.
So far, more than 230 million hectares of forest worldwide are now FSC-certified, and this gives “credible assurance that products [..] come from well-managed forests, controlled sources or recycled materials.” [source: FSC website]. So it guarantees that the entire wood-paper supply chain follows an eco-friendly and sustainable forests’ management.
Our effort
In 2021, with the beginning of our path Biodiversity Friend, we started the collaboration for the printing of all our advertisement material with Grafiche Gemma certified FSC.
A little step towards the preservation of the forests and the international eco-systems.
