Harvest Time!
2020 has not been easy for the whole world.
Regarding Italian wineries there has been some updates related to the quantities of fruit per hectare that each winery can produce.
Some DOC consortium, like the one in Soave, decided to reduce the quantity in order to preserve the quality of the grapes.
Our vineyards of Garganega and Trebbiano are in the Classico area of Soave and they include also the Pressoni vineyard that is a subarea of the Soave Classico DOC.
The forecast about 2020 vintage in the Soave Classico area, is in line with the last seasons, average production and great quality.
The next 10-12 days are going to be especially important to determine the beginning of the harvest that will probably be around the second half of September.
Fortunately, the last storms did not affect very much Soave area and our Pressoni. Besides having lots of rain, we did not have any hail that could have caused damages and problems in our vineyards.
Before starting the harvest, it is important to check the sugar level of the grapes in order to decide when is the best time to start picking. In this way we can have the perfect grapes to make great quality wines and to satisfy the rules of the DOC Soave.
The evaluation of the sugar level is done through an instrument called a refractometer that lets us understand when it is the right moment to harvest the grapes.
Harvest is always a crucial moment and the most important one because it signals the end of the work in the vineyards for growing good quality grapes and the beginning of the work in the cellar in order to obtain good quality wines.
Wish us a great harvest!
